ABSTRACT
Purse seine is a type of fishing gear commonly used by fishers in Indramayu Regency. The purse seine fishing gear used at the Dadap Fishing Port is part of the mini purse seine fishing gear, which is a development of local fishers adapted to their main catch, namely anchovy (Encrasicholina devisi) to increase the efficiency of fishing operations. However, these modifications can cause a problem regarding the amount of bycatch. This research aims to analyze the dimensions of the fishing gear and the composition of the mini purse seine catches at Dadap Fishing Port, Indramayu Regency, and assess the appropriateness of utilizing a purse seine in compliance with Regulation of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2021 concerning Placement of Fishing Gear and Fishing Auxiliary Equipment in the Fishery Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia. The research was carried out in September – October 2022. The research used method with quantitative descriptive analysis. According to the research findings, the main catch was anchovy (Encrasicholina devisi) with a total weight of 30,415 kg. While Sardinella fimbricata dominated the by-catch with a total weight of 74,296 kg. The main catch accounts for 23.32% of the total weight, while, the by-catch accounts for 76.68%. The main catch is based on a total of 57.84% and a by-catch of 42.16%. The construction consist of mini purse seine fishing gear are head rope, float rope, sinker line, floats, sinkers, selvedge, and rings. The mini purse seine fishing gear complies with the Republic of Indonesia’s Regulation of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 18 of 2021 regarding mesh size and fishing line, but not head rope, vessel size, and fishing aids.
