ABSTRACT
Integrating cycling with public transit offers a sustainable alternative to private car usage, addressing first-and-last-mile challenges while enhancing urban accessibility. This study develops a predictive model to quantify the multifaceted societal benefits of integrated bike-transit networks, assessing impacts on environmental, economic, and health outcomes. Using open-source transit and land-use data, we estimate potential shifts from private vehicles to multimodal trips and monetize the resulting benefits, including reduced CO2 emissions, improved air quality, and increased physical activity. Results indicate that integrating cycling can expand transit catchment areas by up to 70%, particularly improving job accessibility for low-income communities. Findings suggest that strategic investment in connected, safe cycling infrastructure and high-quality transfer nodes at transit stations is essential to maximize these benefits and foster equitable, sustainable urban mobility.
