ABSTRACT
The study examined the effect of social media (such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram) on students’ academic achievement in physics in senior secondary schools in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area, Cross River State, Nigeria. Survey Research Design was used with a sample size of 200 students selected from different Senior Secondary Schools in Calabar Municipality. The data collected were presented and analyzed using the One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and student’s independent t-test statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Based on the analysis, the study found that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram usage do not have significant effect on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in Physics. Meanwhile WhatsApp usage has moderately significant effect on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in Physics. It is observed that social media have negative and moderately positive significant influence on students’ academic achievement in physics in senior secondary schools in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area, Cross River State, Nigeria.
