ABSTRACT
Geological and geophysical techniques were used to study the groundwater potential of the Chikun and Environs region of the Kakuri sheet 144 NW, North Central, Nigeria. The three main types of rocks that have been mapped in the research area are porphyritic granite, granitic gneiss, and mica schist. Four to six geoelectric layers, their thicknesses, and corresponding resistivity values are revealed by the VES interpretation results. These layers include; 0 m and 391.0 Ω for top soil, 7.51 m and 291.0 Ω for sandy clay, 22.12 m and 204.1 Ω for consolidated sand, 27.57 m and 262.6 Ω for highly weathered basement, 30.85 m and 427.0 Ω for slightly weathered basement, and 87.50 m and 604.4 Ω for fresh basement. Given their comparatively lower resistivities (between 195.3 and 215.1 ohm meters), VES 1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 13, and 15 can be taken into consideration for citing a borehole according to the VES interpretation. Similarly, boreholes (between 213.3 and 259.0 ohm meters) can be cited using VES 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, and 14. Thus, the types of rocks in the studied area influence the groundwater yield of the area.
