ABSTRACT
Ecuador, being prone to natural disasters and with increasing port activity, faces significant challenges in the sustainable management of its ports. The main objective of this analysis is to provide a detailed overview of the underlying causes of these problems and to offer conclusions to guide future port management policies and strategies. This study focuses on assessing the sustainability of ports in Ecuador, addressing key issues and root causes using an Ishikawa Matrix. The conclusions highlight the importance of improving infrastructure, inter-institutional coordination, environmental management and efficiency to move towards more sustainable port management in the country.
